    RI&E
Following our workshop '(machine)safety in the educational sector', we now have the so called Risk Inventory & Assessment (RI&E in Dutch) to offer.

The RI&A is an extension of the current safety inspection. During a safety inspection only the machine is inspected, while during an RI&A aspects like e.g. the safety of the surroundings, the amount of control (by the teacher) en the clarity and accuracy of supplied safety instructions are also taken into account. With an RI&A, you have got an overview of the safety bottlenecks in your organisation, as complete as possible. We deliver a so called plan of action based on the priorities (risk classes) which you of course, if desired with our advice, can adjust to your own preference. The RI&A is performed using the NEN-EN-1050 -norm or, at your request, by using the method described by Fine & Kinney.

All employers in The Netherlands, are legally obliged to maintain an up-to-date RI&A, for every one of their machines.

One of the tasks of the European Union is to define guidelines, which are supposed to increase the safety of employees. Every Member State is legally obliged to implement these guidelines in the national legislation within a predefined amount of time, In the Netherlands, these guidelines are implemented in the Arbowet.
Every employer is legally bound to provide a safe workplace. Especially the machines must comply with all demands, since the consequences of an accident with a machine are usually quite heavy. For the Netherlands, these demands have been stated in the (Bijzondere) Richtlijn arbeidsmiddelen and the Machinerichtlijn. The Machinerichtlijn applies to all machines which have been introduced to the market or have been instated for the first time before the year 1995. The CE-marking is related to this guideline. The Richtlijn Arbeidsmiddelen applies to all work related equipment.

JOVI specialises in safety inspections of machinery, according to these guidelines.

    Inspections with the Pocket PC
For the safety and maintenance inspections we use Pocket PC's.
These pocket computers are equipped with software, which enables us to execute the entire inspection electronically. All data is first saved to the Pocket PC and later into our maintenance / inspection system. Some advantages of this system are:

  • Periodical maintenance to all machines
  • Cost reducing through a combination of inspection and simultaneous maintenance
  • Prevention of costly repairs through periodical maintenance
  • Yearly taking of inventory and visual safety inspection of all machines
  • Coverage of responsibility considering machine safety (Arbo)
  • Clear and complete system within the entire organisation for all inventory
  • Clear and present machinedata without a paper hassle
  • Better judgement of machines with replacement
  • Permanent independence with repairs propositions
  • Less pressure in activities of the maintenance promoter
  • More general commitment concerning regular attention for machines

  • This way, you have always got a good view of the current condition of your machines.

The (Dutch) law states that electrical equipment must be examined every year.
NEN, formerly the Dutch Normalisation Institute, developed the NEN-standard NEN 3140 for this purpose. Although the law does not compel the use of this standard, it is the easiest way to comply with the legal demands. Therefore we examine the equipment according to this standard. When the equipment has been approved, a sticker with the next inspection date is applied to it. By these means you have always got a clear view of the current condition of your electrical equipment.
