Very recently, the Dutch labour inspection informed the "Metaalunie" that the metal sector, again in 2006, will be inspected intensively on machine safety. These inspections have already started and will be performed until October 2006. The biggest aspects will be machine safety and, if the inspected company performs galvanize of paint jobs, handling of hazardous materials.

The objective of the inspections is to prevent cutting and crushing accidents. This, among other things will include: press brakes, exccentric presses, milling machines, lathing machines, metal waltzes, hoisting and lifting tools and sawing machines. Furthermore the labour inspection will collect information on the upholding of the European machine guideline. This information will later be used for inspections of producer, supplier or importer of the machines. The inspecor can also inventory the upholding of the Tobacco law. However, no sanctions will be given for this subject.

Should the inspector find any unacceptable risks, he can administer a sanction and/or stop the working activities.

The national inspection project 'praktijklokalen metaaltechniek in het VMBO en het beroepsonderwijs' of the Dutch labour inspection raises many questions. There are also many unclarities about laws and responsibilities regarding the educational sector.

- What are our responsiblities?

- In what way is the safety of our machine park assured?

- Is the machine park safe, after solving the problems determined by the labour inspection?

In order to provide some clarity about these things,we would like to invite you to the workshop (machine) safety in the educational sector.
During this workshop, among other things, we would like to deal with the following points:

the afternoon will be led by our safety expert, mr. M. Visser. Also during this afternoon, there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

In December 2004 JOVI qualified for the SCC** (VCA** in Dutch) certificate for 3 years. SCC** also handles, besides the execution level, policy, structure and planning concerning safety, health and environment. The SCC** certificate is a decleration which supplies a justified trust, that "safety is in the right hands". The advantages for all parties are: among other things less injuries, redused risk of calamities. All in all: a safe(r) and healthy work environment.

Hereby JOVI would like to point out to you that your machines, according to the richtlijn arbeidsmiddelen, are compelled to be examined. JOVI can arrange all of this for you. Also for information about advises concerning obligations JOVI can be of assistance.

As a machine factory JOVI is mostly occupied with manufacture of parts made of metal and plastic using conventional as well as CNC machines according to the customer's specifications. Hardening and grinding of parts, according to your specifications, is performed in our own accomodation. The conditioned measuring room with calibrated measuring tools take care of a correct delivery of parts and products.

JOVI can inspect your machines on a yearly basis. Our system takes care of your machinery and is very flexible. Some advantages of this system are:
- Yearly examination of safety of your machines
- Through regular inspection and maintenance, costly repairs can be prevented
- Prevention of machine failure at unfavourable times.

Our system not only uses the DIN-standards, also the safety standards are used in the examination. JOVI uses complete tool sets, which enable us to perform all necessary measurings for inspection and overhaul.

“An entrepreneur has provided a machine, carrying a CE-marking, to an employee. The employee loses a part of his finger during an accident with this machine. The judge finds the supplier of the machine guilty, since he put the CE-marking onto the machine. The entrepreneur however, is also found guilty. He provided an unsafe piece of equipment to his employee (ARBO law in the Netherlands). The judge stated, that the entrepeneur had been able to determine that the CE-marking was falslely applied with a simple visual check. Since he neglected to take action, he was found guilty too.”

Since the beginning of the year 1995 JOVI has been qualified according to the NEN-ISO 9000 standards. In the year 2003, this certificate has been updated to the current NEN-EN-ISO 9001:2000 standard. In ISO 9001 the customer, and his needs and wishes, take the most important part.

JOVI has more than 27 years of experience in inspecting, maintaining and overhauling machines in the educational sector, defence and the industrial sector. At the overhaul department, machines with signs of wearing from, among other things, the wood and metalworking industries, are overhauled in such a way that the machine is delivered as if it were new according to DIN standards or customer specifications. This can be done internally as well as on site, a quick service with direct contacts and honest advice are the keywords at JOVI.
